Hi Christine,

Happened to be reading, "ways to freshen up your home" in a magazine before reading your post.

It suggests using bicarbonate of soda for carpet smells, then hoover off. To get rid of a stuffy room, put drops of lavendar oil on a cotton wool ball and put in the hoover, the fragrance releases when you hoover up. If a cat pees on furniture, it says use soda water to neutralise the uric acid. Dried urine stains spray with a strong solution of clear vinegar - that's what you're doing already.

I've never tried any of the above, so please don't take my word for it, but good luck!

Hi Chrissie

Have you tried washing soda? You can get it in crystal form or as a spray. Bicarb is also good. I used to soak my mum's and in law's clothes in Zoflora before washing them.

might upset their skins but BIOLOGICAL washing powder/liquid is sure to remove all whiffs from whiffy washing. If you have a LIdl's near you, a BIG box is only about £6 (same size of Ariel etc about £13-14) and lasts a long time as you need a minimum amount per wash, AND does a very good wash at 30 degrees, even removes mud etc (cow poo, horse poo, grass stains etc) from dogs towels. Also comes in smaller size ..............worth a try, perhaps?

Hi Christine,

Baking powder and vinegar seems to do the trick. However, can't you get the older couple's GP to refer them to the incontinence service for the big pants and rubber sheets?

love,

Barbara

we have.... but someone is differcult to toilet has no idea as just forgotton .So pads are ???As somone would have no idea and can,t feel if wet or dirty as has a part of brain sorted out .Useing some incontance sevices

So he is going into Tena pants for men as belive he could manage them .
As for dirty pants ect waiting for the memory too get worse and then jump in which isn,t nice .But someone won,t know .As memory is getting bad monthley can notice the differance .Once someone can,t rembember his old life will be sorted out fully .But still as a tiny bit of inderpendace .But also has no idea .
hence the smelly washing .

i know most of the sevices we can have .But slightley difaclult at moment as wearey of it .
what we need to do is stop someone being smelly when he is out .( washed before hand ) is slightley aware .

think by summer we may have to use a lot more services .( someone won,t open door to just anyone )
its the case if forgotton we jump in .( NOT NICE ) but are so luckey not too be in a home .They love being at home and there wishes where not too be put into a home .So we look after them very well .
this week we have steped up the care that goes in .

Hi, Can't work out if in bed all day. A relative of mine had similar problems but ambulant. It was the chair they sat on and also "sorry- shoes where it had dripped" that retained the smell. The chair had loose cover so we put a polythene bag over cushion and then cover back on so they didn't realise. Sneaky but neeed doing. Could they be challenged about going into care if not prepared to work with you? Sorry not more help Anne

No still kind of ative .Both of them they can make cups of tea breakfast toast get in and out of bed and kind off dress there selfs ( though both forget washs ) And with a hint wil be ready for day centre .
Have too go in night before and wash them and lay every thing out .

We now have a carer going in from this week too get them ready for one day centre
as there was a promlem in how one put his clothes on .We did not catch him that day .ha ha

chair yes done that .But it became dirty .So been cleaned up and now had a bed pad tucked round it .
Which i change every time some one has a big wash .( you can get chair pads )

Yes i wash the shoes as well .With good care at right times of day will help smells with this extra care someone will wear tena pants as care includes a wash and dress .A new thing ( you can get tena pants for men over the net ) like pants .

its mainley smells that get on the bedding and bed pads that are very hard to shift but trying a few tips
these people are my friends perants but its a lot of work keeping them at home which they enjoy .
As you have to do all the thinking and do every thing they need food bills care household things when they go out .What they are wearing .( one told me it was summer and did not need a jumper )No care home is out they have asked to stay in there own home for years now
